Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Statistics was established in 1982. In the 1982-1983 academic year, he started his undergraduate education. Approximately 219 students in the department; It is trained by a scientific staff of 16, including 4 professors, 6 associate professors, 2 doctor lecturers and 4 research assistants. The main aim of the Department of Statistics is to provide a well-balanced Statistics program for Statisticalist candidates who can work in many fields, including university teaching. The aim of the program given in the Department of Statistics: To provide students with a strong structure in the application and theory of basic statistical techniques, to develop the student's analytical inference power and to train statisticians with the knowledge and equipment required by private and public institutions. Today, which is described as the information age, the need for up-to-date and reliable information is increasing. Therefore, the need for statistical information about the economy and culture of a society is rapidly increasing. In addition to this increasing need, it is very important to collect information in a healthy way, summarize, provide forward-looking information, evaluate and interpret it. Today, the expression and interpretation of almost everything with numbers binds us all. From here, it is revealed that Statistics is a very basic tool in improving quality and productivity. The Department of Statistics aims to train statisticians who will accurately collect the information about the subjects that are required to be clarified, apply the existing statistical methods skillfully to summarize the collected information, draw conclusions and present the results in an understandable way. Graduates are preferably employed in the stock exchange and banks in research and planning measurement and evaluation business-management production planning project management decision-making units that can be found in all private and public sectors.
